It was my experiment with blogging and your encouragement was enormous. Advises from my close friends and associates motivated me to start inspire and inginite , to inspire average student to do great in their lifes.

Please check the results of last 15 days over my personal and professional blogs.

Thanks to everyone again for giving me a good start. Presently I am helping students to get updated with M.Tech admissions in NITs and will post some articles on admission analysis too. I strongly believe in a year span everything over there will change. I have submitted my first sitemap or index with google too and just waiting for it index it.

There is a huge work to be done for this. Right from designing to content and making it useful for visitors. I started this to help students with insights from IITian about admission, all other sites giving admission information are totally commercial and dont have any idea about admission process except admission notification. Moreover, that notification is a copy and paste from the institute web site.

I wish all you could join me for this efforts to help students with good insights into admissions.

Lets grow together and help others to grow.

Top Engineering colleges in India : 2009 Ranking

Sunday, May 10, 2009

Engineering college rankings are my great interest, as I studied from a private college and ended up finishing my PhD in IIT. Since 2005 I see ranking by different agencies and magazines, which never presented it from a students’ perspective.

Most of the ranking are based on some assumption and after a listing they again release revised list modifying some ranks.

Here I present a list for top ranked Engineering schools in India based on Student preference, Faculty, Infrastructure and Industry interface or placements.
If you have any question, suggestions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to drop a comment. I will get back with more information within a week time.

I kept new IITs up in the ranking even though they are quite new because of quality of students joining and IIT Hyderabad little up in ranking because a lot of students from Andhra Pradesh make into to IITs and they prefer IIT Hyderabad over less rank IITs.

IIT M.Tech Admission: Test and Interview preparation

Saturday, May 09, 2009

Most of the students are confused about this phase of admission. The reason for conducting written test and interviews is to select the best students. As GATE is a multiple choice test, there is some probability of getting good percentile if some of the blind guesses are correct. To avoid these outliers, IITs and IISc conduct a written test and interview.

Written test:

  1. Usually this test includes multiple choice questions and has around 10% weight for admission. As many students appear for exam and in a single day IITs have to finish whole process of admission, they feel comfortable with multiple choice questions. Multiple choice type test help the administration to quick evaluate and process the results.

  2. There can be very few analytical questions, so prepare accordingly.

  3. Prepare with short note material which you used for GATE.

  4. Have a good insight into difficult subjects.

  5. Don’t worry if can not do as per you expectations, as it counts only 10%.

Interview:
It is little scary to face professors from IITs for the first time, as you don’t know their expectations and your career depend on their decision. But follow these tips things will be great..

Read interview tips at Inspire 'n' Ignite.

Do remember, interview is a chance to prove that you are better than what your score shows. Mostly they try to analyze your understand of some problems and analytical skills to solve them. So try to understand the question and frame your answer based on logic. On the same time it is a good way to know, how good you are in subject. Bluffing something may lead to bad conclusions. Be polite, don’t be afraid. Show that given tips you will solve problems and ready to learn rather than arguing. Interview has around 20% weight, and can change many figures if you do well. I wish you a great luck out there, and waiting to welcome you a tradition called IIT, which I m part of and remain rest of my life…

Essential guide for ambitious and focused students * Home * About M.Tech Admissions: General Tips for Written Test and Interview

Monday, May 04, 2009

This most important day for anyone who is appearing for test and interview. Students from different parts of the country will try to prove their metal. Few of them outspoken and few are introverts. But every one has to go though same process. Here are I offer general tips for exam day and before. You can also read more details Inspire 'n' Ignite.

  1. Try to reach a day before and get the accommodation. Usually IITs give accommodation in hostels, so don’t expect a 5 star hotel treatment. And this is summer vacation too.. so adjust ;)

  2. Settle down, take shower and just relax.

  3. As it is summer, take lost of fruits and juice to keep you healthy and energetic.

  4. After dinner take a walk and see the department, where you are going to have test and interview and feel the IIT atmosphere.

  5. After return you can refer to the quick notes you made and take rest. Don’t worry about reading a lot a day before exam. It is a test of your four years efforts not a night before :)

  6. You can sleep tight as you traveled a lot and tired :)

  7. Getup early morning and take shower and pray god and go to breakfast.

  8. Take your file that contains call for test and gate score copies and all.

  9. Don’t forget to make friend on breakfast table and free time between test and interview.

  10. Try to use few IIT facilities at hostels, like Internet, Sports, TV hall, Gym and a Small Library.

Over all make it a learning experience. Instead of just going for exam and interview, try to be the part of IIT at least for some time. Doing all these will not harm you admission and there are no CCTV cameras to check what you are doing. More importantly there are no marks for discipline and being introvert for admission to IITs. Therefore have load of fun :)

M.Tech admission in IITs: Tips and Advises

Sunday, May 03, 2009

One of my friend got 99 + percentile in GATE and an all India rank between 280~290. He was all jumping and very happy and came to me that now he can go to any IIT for M.Tech. He is from computer science, and I did PhD from computer science and worked closely on M.Tech admission process with admission committee for more than two years. Visited and appeared for tests all over IITs, IISc and ISI Kolkatta. I found it difficult for me to find some information desired for getting into IITs. I visited al most all the campuses over time and learned these.

So here I go with few quick advises. For details do have a look at Complete M.Tech guide :)

  1. Marley a good Gate score does not guarantee your admission to M.Tech at IITs, especially to Computers, Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

  2. Apply all IITs and IISc don’t loose it because of over confidence.

  3. Wait for call for a written test and interview.

  4. Prepare well for exam as it is not like gate (multiple choice) most of the IITs give some descriptive and analytical questions too.

  5. Interview play the most important role, as they see you problem solving. Whenever get a chance tell them the subject you are very strong in.

  6. Importantly plan you schedule, as soon as you get a call book train tickets. You can cancel them latter on if you don’t go there.

  7. Two IITs may call you around the same time or very close to each other so be mentally prepared for this and make a priority.

  8. There are few other courses where you easily get seats in IITs. You can play a safe too if want.

  9. If you are unlucky and average in all aspects of admission and could not make it, you can look for some good alternatives.

  10. Enjoy your travel all over India 

Check out every tip in detail and don’t hesitate to post your doubts and questions for this all admission process. Let’s make it useful for coming generations.
